MEDICAL CANNABIS — DRIVER IMPAIRMENT
1501. Hon Dr BRIAN WALKER to the parliamentary secretary
representing the Minister for Health:
I refer the minister to the
commencement last week of a long-awaited investigative study into driving with
THC being undertaken by academics at Swinbourne University of Technology,
backed by a $4.9 million grant from the Victorian state government.
(1) Rather than
reinvent the wheel, will the minister liaise with her counterparts in Victoria
to ensure that the results of the trial are shared with other jurisdictions in
a timely manner, particularly our own, and if they prove amenable, will she
then ensure that the data is made available to her own working group?
(2) If no to (1), why not?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. The following answer has been provided by the
Minister for Health.
(1) The medicinal
cannabis and safe driving working group is monitoring developments in relation
to the medicinal cannabis and driving trial in Victoria. The developments and
any results available will be considered when preparing a report and
recommendation to the minister.
(2) Not applicable.
