The Department of Housing advises:
(1) An independent valuation was carried out by Herron Todd White in October 2011 which was a separate process to the inspection carried out by Houspect Building Inspections in March 2012.
The likely presence of asbestos containing materials was noted in both reports, however, the property was assessed to be in fair condition for its age and structurally sound. The primary value of the site was in the land and the building was intended for use as an interim facility until a purpose-built refuge could be constructed.
The new service was funded through the Department for Child Protection and Family Support, and the Department of Housing was requested to secure accommodation on its behalf.
