Minister for Community Services:
I refer to the
grandcarers support scheme.
(1) How many
grandcarers received a payment in the 2023–24 financial year?
(2) How many
grandcarers applied for the payment but had their application rejected in the
2023–24 financial year?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. The following response has been provided by the
Minister for Community Services.
The Department of Communities
advises the following.
(1) There were 1 910
payments made to grandcarers in the 2023–24 financial year.
(2) There were
332.
Note that these applicants were
ineligible to receive a payment for reasons including the grandchild being 18 years
or over, receiving other support payments or not being the full-time primary
carer of their grandchild.
