I thank the member, who has a clear interest in sport and recreation, for the question. Members are aware that the community sporting and recreation facilities fund is very valuable to our communities. It provides one-third funding for infrastructure projects, in partnership with both local government and community and sporting groups. Members have seen the benefit to their electorates of this funding. It provides extra funding to allow really good projects to go ahead. These facilities are important, particularly in rural areas. They provide the infrastructure that allows people to come together to enjoy their sport and recreation, and they can become the core of a community. I was very pleased recently to announce the next round of the CSRFF grants; a commitment of $10.8 million towards 101 projects for the 2006-07 financial year. Since 2001, when the Labor Party came to government, the total expenditure through the CSRFF has been $62 million. In the round that I have just announced, about 75 per cent of that $10.8 million has gone to regional Western Australia. The government acknowledges the importance of sport in regional Western Australia, and it has made sure that those communities receive the support they need through the CSRFF. From the major project in which the Shire of Esperance received $1.75 million towards its indoor sports stadium, which is part of a larger concept, to projects to erect lights on tennis courts or resurface courts, communities in Western Australia benefit from this funding. A special part of this funding is allocated to ensuring that Aboriginal communities receive assistance for their projects. An amount of $570 000 will be for facilities in the Shires of Roebourne, Meekatharra, Derby and West Kimberley. This funding is specifically for projects for indigenous people who also need to benefit from these facilities. I thank all members who have helped various community and sporting groups with their applications. I also recognise the important role played by local government in providing facilities across Western Australia and in working with their local community groups and the state government to deliver the facilities that our communities need and want.
