FREMANTLE BRIDGE — STRUCTURAL SAFETY
834. Hon KATE DOUST to the
parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Transport:
I refer to the separation of two
large vessels from Fremantle wharf during the storms on Sunday night and the
subsequent damage to the nearby rail bridge.
(1) Will the
Minister for Transport table the most recent engineering report by Arup for the
Public Transport Authority on the structural safety of the Fremantle Traffic
Bridge?
(2) Was work
continuing on the ships around 10.00 pm when the weather was strong enough to
pull these vessels from their moorings, despite extreme weather warnings being
posted earlier that afternoon?
(3) Since
deepening the harbour, has a risk assessment been done of the impact of storm
surges; and, if so, will the minister table it?
(4) If no to (3), why not?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the
question.
(1) Yes. I table the report entitled ''Holistic
Treatment of Fremantle Rail and Traffic Bridges''.
 (2) Yes, work continued until the front hit,
as operations were not affected by adverse winds prior to the front.
(3) No.
(4) Deepening is not considered to affect the impact of storm
surges.
