POLICE STATION CLOSURES
I have a supplementary question. Given that the minister will not immediately reopen the closed police stations, will he confirm that the government will conduct a full and proper independent review, including full consultation with local government and the community, within 12 months, as promised? Mr J.C. KOBELKE

I will certainly back the undertaking given by the commissioner that he will not demolish or sell off those buildings over the coming year and that he will conduct a review to see whether policing has improved. He will examine the matter again on that basis and talk to the government. The situation is - Several members interjected. The SPEAKER : Order, members! Mr J.C. KOBELKE : I had similar issues - not the same, because in remote towns there are clearly distances that have to be travelled - when the Nollamara Police Station was closed. I can provide an absolute assurance that when the Nollamara Police Station was closed and officers were moved to Mirrabooka, policing in my area improved. I suspect that the same situation of improved policing will result in most, if not all, of the areas referred to by the member.
