PEEL HEALTH CAMPUS, FUNDING OF DAY SURGERY CENTRE 447. Mr MARSHALL to the Minister for Health: I refer the minister to an advertisement in the Mandurah Mail dated 28 December 2000, which indicated, “Only Geoff Gallop . . . will put more resources into the public hospital system”, and it promised that $2.4 million would be allocated to improving facilities for day surgery and renal care at the Peel Health Campus. I ask why no allocation has been made to the new day surgery in the 2001-02 budget, despite this express promise to the people of Peel that money would be put aside for that this year? Mr KUCERA

Quite simply, this was a four-year commitment, as the member for Dawesville knows. As I have said already, the health system requires a major overhaul. It is not just about buildings; it is also about people within the system. I compliment the people at the Peel Health Campus, because I have made a number of visits to it and they are doing a great job. I know the amount of work that David Templeman, the member for Mandurah, carries out and he is to be commended for that. It is a four-year commitment and we will work through it as time permits.
