433. Mr McGOWAN to the Minister for Resources Development; Energy; Education:
I refer to Government offices, instrumentalities and agencies under the control of the Minister and ask -
(a) which Government offices in Perth are planned for re-location;
(b) when do the relevant leases expire in relation to these offices;
(c) has the Government considered re-locating any of these offices into the Rockingham City centre precinct;
(d) if not, why not;
(e) will the Government discuss this matter with the Rockingham City Council; and
(f) if not, why not?

DEPARTMENT OF RESOURCES DEVELOPMENT
(a) The only office planned for relocation in the next year is that currently occupied by the project team making up the Gas Pipeline Working Group.
(b) The lease expires on 31 December 2000.
(c) No.
(d) It is considered essential for this office to be located in close proximity to the Department of Resources Development, the Office of Energy, the Minister's office and other relevant agencies associated with the project.
(e-f) Not applicable.
OFFICE OF ENERGY
(a) The Office of Energy has no plans to relocate.
(b-f) Not applicable.
WESTERN POWER
(a) Western Power is not intending to relocate its Perth offices.
(b-f) Not applicable.
EDUCATION DEPARTMENT OF WESTERN AUSTRALIA
(a) The Perth District Education Office is planned for relocation.
(b) The lease on the current premises for the Perth District Education Office (Jean Beadle Centre) expires in July 2003.
(c) The Government has not considered relocating these offices to the Rockingham City Centre precinct.
(d) The Perth District Education Office needs to be located as centrally as possible to the geographic area of the Perth Education District. The Rockingham City Centre is 40 kilometres from the required location.
(e) No.
(f) The Rockingham City Centre precinct is considered to be an unworkable location for the Perth District Education Office.
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION SERVICES, CURRICULUM COUNCIL, COUNTRY HIGH SCHOOL HOSTELS AUTHORITY
(a) Department of Education Services and the Country High School Hostels Authority, currently located at 216 St George's Terrace Perth, and the Curriculum Council, currently located at 27 Walters Drive Osborne Park.
(b) The lease at 216 St George's Terrace expires 31 January 2003 and the Osborne Park lease expires 31 August 2005.
(c) No.
(d) Other options are being considered.
(e) No.
(f) The three agencies are central service agencies for schools and universities and, as a consequence, need to be in a location that can be conveniently accessed by teachers, parents, students and administrators.
