BUSHFIRE MITIGATION
447. Mr D.T. REDMAN to the Minister for Emergency Services:
I have a supplementary question.
Clearly, the minister seems to have discovered it. Can the minister confirm
that he does not believe the minister responsible for the fire and emergency
services' agency should be aware of nearly $6 million for bushfire
mitigation on crown land administered by his agency and something he knew
nothing about during budget estimates?
Mr Z.R.F. Kirkup interjected.
The SPEAKER : Member for
Dawesville! Are you having a good conversation? I call you to order for the
second time. I know you have been busy for the last day or two.

This comes from a former minister in
the previous government that did hardly anything in the area of bushfire
mitigation for local government—hardly anything.
Several members interjected.
Mr F.M. LOGAN : I did not say
he did not do anything; I said he did hardly anything.
Ms M.J. Davies interjected.
The SPEAKER : Leader of the
National Party!
Mr F.M. LOGAN : He knows that
the agencies responsible for bushfire mitigation are the Department of
Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions and, only recently, the Department
of Fire and Emergency Services under our government. We have taken up the
responsibility, particularly for unallocated crown land, to undertake bushfire
mitigation. That was done only under this government. We have put more money
into that space to keep rural and regional communities safe than any other
government in Australia and any other government before in Western Australia.
All the member for Warren–Blackwood can do is try to score silly
brownie points by referring to a line in another part of the budget papers
relating to bushfire mitigation. Seriously! Grow up; you are pathetic.
