1359. Hon COLIN HOLT to the minister representing the
Minister for Transport:
I refer to the acquisition of land
associated with the southern section of the Bunbury Outer Ring Road project.
(1) How many landholders will be
affected by acquisitions on the southern route?
(2) Why is Main Roads WA instigating
these acquisitions before any approvals have been finalised?
(3) Has the
minister received any complaints from affected landholders on how they have
been approached in terms of acquisition?
(4) Does the minister have any
concerns with the process of land acquisition?
(5) Which company
has been contracted by Main Roads WA to negotiate the acquisition of property
from affected landholdings and at what cost?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) Thirty-three landholders will be
affected.
(2) Due to the length of time involved in acquiring
land for road projects, it is not feasible to wait for environmental approval before commencing the land acquisition process. This approach is
standard practice and has been adopted for a
number of major projects. Any construction likely to disturb environmental
values will not commence until environmental approvals are in place.
(3) Yes. However, the issues raised
have been resolved.
(4) No.
(5) The process is conducted
internally by Main Roads staff.
