I refer to the Auditor General's report
Rich and Rare: Conservation of Threatened Species
(5/2009) 10 June 2009, where it states on page 4 that 'While DEC [Department of Environment and Conservation] is primarily responsible for our threatened species, successful conservation is also dependent on the long-term support of other agencies, corporations and the community.', and I ask —
(1) What long-term support was provided by other agencies in 2008-09, 2009-10, 2010-11 and in 2011-12 to date? For each year, please provide details of the particular project, species or conservation strategy to which that support was directed, details of the specific form of support (financial, in kind etc), and the time-frame relating to that support.
(2) What long-term support was provided by corporations in 2008-09, 2009-10, 2010-11 and in 2011-12 to date? For each year, please provide details of the particular project, species or conservation strategy to which that support was directed, details of the specific form of support (financial, in kind etc), and the time-frame relating to that support.
(3) What long-term support was provided by the community in 2008-09, 2009-10, 2010-11 and in 2011-12 to date? For each year, please provide details of the particular project, species or conservation strategy to which that support was directed, details of the specific form of support (financial, in kind etc), and the time-frame relating to that support.
(4) What long-term support from other agencies, corporations and the community does the Minister expect to be forthcoming in the future?

(1) The support provided by agencies other than the Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) in threatened species conservation ranges from research and direct involvement in recovery projects by agencies such as Perth Zoo, the Botanic Gardens and Parks Authority and the WA Museum, to support work from agencies such as the Department of Planning, to land management activities by agencies with threatened species on lands that they manage, such as Main Roads WA, the Department of Water and local government authorities. This support ranges from specific projects to ongoing management and is impractical to document in the manner requested. The annual reports of the relevant agencies should be referred to for further information.
(2)-(4) It is not the role of DEC or any other government agency to keep a comprehensive record of threatened species conservation work by the variety of corporations and community groups who carry out such work with their own resources, State and/or Commonwealth government support and volunteer effort.
The support provided by corporations ranges from the implementation of conditions of development approvals, including offsets, and the management of the lands that they are responsible for, to the provision of sponsorships.
The support provided by the community includes the activities of local groups, non-government conservation organisations, regional natural resource management organisations and individual land owners and managers.
The Minister for Environment expects that the wide range of support provided for threatened species conservation by other agencies, corporations and the community will continue.
