DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE AND FOOD —
PASTORAL LEASES
990. Mr C.J. TALLENTIRE to the
Minister for Lands:
I have a supplementary question. Why
is the minister failing to deliver on rangeland reform before reissuing the leases?

It is because the leases run out in
June of next year. That is why, as a matter of priority —
Mr
C.J. Tallentire interjected.
The
SPEAKER : Member for Gosnells!
Mr
D.T. REDMAN : The pastoral industry in Western Australia wants certainty.
This government —
Mr
C.J. Tallentire interjected.
The
SPEAKER : Member for Gosnells, I call you to order for the second time.
Mr
D.T. REDMAN : People in the pastoral industry in Western Australia want
certainty. They want to know that they have security of their lease beyond June
2015. We have offered two lease options to them. It has taken a long time of
negotiations supported by this government to get to a position that they agree
on. Those pastoral leases are out there for those that are compliant. We are
still working through a range of issues on the ones that are noncompliant. As
we get closer to 30 June 2015 there will be security that will come to the
pastoral industry in Western Australia, and we absolutely are committed to
reforming the opportunities in the pastoral industry in Western Australia—the
absolute opposite of the policy settings of the opposition.
