CYCLONE SEROJA — RECOVERY
320. Hon MARTIN ALDRIDGE to the Minister for Emergency Services:
Is the Minister for Emergency Services
available for questions without notice today?
Hon Sue Ellery : I am the
acting minister, and I have signed off on all the questions.
Hon MARTIN ALDRIDGE : I refer
to the answer provided by the Premier in the Legislative Assembly on 16 March
2023 in relation to the cyclone Seroja recovery, when he stated —
the government spent around $50 million
on the recovery effort in Kalbarri.
(1) Can the
minister please provide a breakdown of how the state government has spent $50 million
on the cyclone Seroja recovery in Kalbarri?
(2) What
proportion of the $104.5 million secured through the disaster recovery funding

I thank the honourable
member for some notice of the question.
(1) The state
government has made a significant contribution to the recovery efforts post ex–tropical
cyclone Seroja in April 2021. Funding for the
recovery efforts came from a variety of sources, including the Lord Mayor's Distress Relief Fund, Premier's
grant payments, Western Power relief grants, Water Corporation relief
grants, and disaster recovery funding arrangements. The combined total for
these amounts currently stands at over $30 million. An additional $18 million
was also spent on emergency clearing, sign replacement, and vegetation repairs
that were undertaken on the impacted state road network. Ex–tropical
cyclone Ellie also caused damage to the One Mile jetty in Carnarvon, which,
although it is not in an DRFA–activated region, was removed at a cost
of approximately $4.2 million.
(2) Honourable
member, I note that a question seeking the same information has been submitted
on notice, and an answer is being prepared accordingly.
