Department of Premier and Cabinet advises:
(a)-(b) The Western Australian Agent General and officers in the European Office in London, have been active, particularly since 2009, in promoting Western Australia as the preferred site for the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) project. As is consistent with the role of Agent General, meetings, exhibitions and events were attended and hosted by the Agent General at which the benefits of the State for the SKA project were promoted to all attendees. These actions were often undertaken with the cooperation of the Australian High Commission in London and Commonwealth Government representatives throughout Europe as is expected with a project of such significance to the nation.
Department of State Development advises:
(a-b) Department of State Development employees in overseas trade and investment offices, including China, have not lobbied the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) Board officials. The State's European office is overseen by the Department of the Premier and Cabinet. The Department of State Development has been informed that the State's Agent General, and officers in the European Office in London, attended and hosted meetings and events to promote Western Australia as the preferred site for the SKA project.
All high level SKA meetings attended by the Agent General were with the Australian High Commissioner, Mr John Dauth, and the First Secretary at the Australian High Commission, Ms Tiffany McDonald.
