277. Hon LYNN MacLAREN to the minister representing the Treasurer:
(1) Can the
Treasurer confirm that the legislation for the proposed sale of the Fremantle
port includes a provision that will promote the expansion of the live export
industry?
(2) Is the
Treasurer aware of the ongoing considerable controversy surrounding animal
welfare in the Australian live export industry?
(3) If yes to
(1), can the Treasurer confirm that the Fremantle port legislation will also
include provisions requiring standards of animal welfare?

I thank the member for some notice
of the question. That answer has not been presented to me today and I have not
seen it at all and have not signed off on it. I have asked my colleagues if
they have the answer and they do not. I have not had a chance to look at or
approve the answer as I have not received it at all today.
