I refer to the Attorney General's
answer to part (1) of my question without notice 997 of 18 October, wherein I asked
what facilities or funding the government provides to the Royal Association of
Justices of Western Australia, and contrast it with the detailed response
provided to a like inquiry from Hon Simon O'Brien by way of question
without notice 772 of 12 August 2015.
(1) Why does the Attorney General
refuse to provide details of the facilities provided to RAJWA?
(2) In order to
assist him in providing information in response to my query of 18 October, is
the information provided by the then Attorney General on 12 August 2015 still
current; and, if not, in what respect is the current situation different?

(1) There has been no refusal to
provide information.
(2) The Royal
Association of Justices of Western Australia continues to be provided with
accommodation by the Department of Justice at the Perth Central Law Courts, so
that the association has an office from which it administers its operations.
The current accommodation has changed to a different location within the
Central Law Courts and includes office space for two workstations, filing
cabinets, furniture and office equipment, including a photocopy machine and
printers. The accommodation also includes access to a conference room upon
request, and public male/female toilet facilities. Furthermore, from time to
time, the association's regional branches request the use of courthouse
facilities, such as a conference room to hold a meeting. When such facilities
are available and it is practical to do so, the clerks of the court generally
allow the association's regional branches the use of such facilities.
The association continues to utilise
Department of Justice envelopes and the cost of postage is covered by the
Department of Justice. This is estimated to be $2 000 per annum. Funding to the
association has been provided for a specific purpose pursuant to the delivering
community services in partnership policy. Over the last five years, grant
funding has been provided by the Department of Justice to the association as a grant
of $50 000 from 1 July 2012 to 30 June 2013. The purpose of the grant was to
publish an association justice of the peace journal that was posted to
association members.
