I refer to the Premier's claims, as quoted in
Hansard
on 20 June 2012 that it will not be hard to find someone to build a pipeline to run the gas from James Price Point down to Port Hedland, and I ask:
(a) has the Premier, or any member of the Department for Premier and Cabinet, had discussions with private companies concerning the construction of a gas pipeline for the domestic market in relation to the Browse Gas project; and
(i) if yes, who has the Premier had those discussions with, and when were they held;
(b) has the Department of State Development held any discussions with private companies concerning the construction of a domestic gas pipeline from the Browse Gas project, and the provision of gas for the domestic market; and
(i) if yes, what private companies were involved and when did these discussions take place;
(c) if no to (a) and (b), what is the Premier basing his assumptions on?

Department of the Premier and Cabinet advises:
(a) No.
(a i - c) Not applicable to the department.
Department of State Development:
(a-c) The State's domestic gas policy requires a reservation of gas for the domestic market equivalent to 15% of LNG produced. The policy gives consideration to ways in which market mechanisms can be used to provide producers with flexibility in meeting their domestic gas commitments.
Both the Government and the Department of State Development have had, on an ongoing basis, discussions with a range of companies involved in oil and gas activity in the offshore Browse and onshore Canning basins, and with gas consumers throughout the State.
The parties to those discussions and the discussions themselves are commercial-in-confidence. However, the State is confident of the gas supply potential of these basins.
