The Western Australia Police Service advises:
(a) 1028.
(b) Approximately $500,000.
(c) 2886.
(d) 3288.
(e) 3334 in total. 46 pistols are yet to be delivered
(f) $1,697,358.
(g) The contract with Glock HK is for an initial term of 5 years with two, 2 year options exercisable at the complete discretion of the Department of Treasury and Finance on behalf of the Western Australia Police Service. The Western Australia Police Service will purchase additional pistols, as and when required over the contract period. It is not possible to determine how many pistols will be purchased over the life of the contract.
(h) It is unclear what the member is asking in part (h).
(i) 1028.
(j) refer to (b)
(k) Glock HK are contractually committed to the buy-back of the Sigma pistols. The Sigma pistols will be forwarded to Glock HK in batches, as and when police officers are trained in the use of the Glock pistol, and the Sigma pistols are withdrawn from service.
(l) $170,648.
(m) The Glock pistols will be made available to members of the Police Service on the same operational basis as the current provision of firearms. Specifically, those officers authorised to carry personal issue firearms will be directly issued with Glock pistols, and those officers who currently access firearms from Police Station armouries before going on duty will access the Glock pistols from the Police Station armoury.
(n) Yes.
(o) Prior to calling the recent tender for the supply of pistols the Police Service undertook a detailed operational assessment of the Service’s firearm requirements. The above Glock pistol number reflects the Service’s current operational firearm requirement.
The reduced total number of firearms reflects two issues. Firstly, under previous supply arrangements an armoury of spare firearms needed to be maintained for issue as a replacement when firearms where withdrawn for repairs. Am armoury of spare pistols is no longer required under the new supply arrangement as Glock HK will supply a replacement pistol when pistols are withdrawn for repairs. Secondly the periodic purchasing of small batches of firearms over many years has resulted in an incremental divergence between the number of firearms on issue and the number required for operational requirements.
