2) As at 23 August 2001, there are 1 355 male and 8 666 female teachers in primary schools. 3) As at 23 August 2001, there are 2 637 temporary and 7 384 permanent teachers (988 of these teachers are working towards confirmation of permanency). The remaining temporary teachers have these employment opportunities due to the leave conditions provided to permanent teachers. This includes long service leave, parenting leave (maternity leave) and leave without pay. 4) As at 23 August 2001, there are 3 435 part time teachers. (Note: Permanent teachers and temporary teachers could also be working part time and would also be included in this number.)
