I thank the honourable member for some notice of the
question. As the Minister for Disability Services has already stated in this
house, there is no change at this stage to the TUS scheme; however, some
distress has been caused throughout the community about the matter. The member
opposite has been asking similar questions all week. I respond as follows —
(1) At its
regular meeting on 26 May 2015, the Department of Transport informed taxi
industry representative groups through its taxi sector consultative group of
the existence of the National Disability Insurance Scheme trial. Further direct
communication with the industry is planned once any specific impacts of the
trial on the TUSS are known.
(2) Yes. An
extract of meeting minutes from the taxi sector consultative group on 26 May
2015 indicates that the Department of Transport advises that WA has started
participating in a two-year trial of the National Disability Insurance Scheme.
The NDIS trial in WA is unique because two different disability service models
are being run in separate locations. Transport subsidies provided by the
Department of Transport, including TUSS, have been included in the trial. TUSS
services will cease to members eligible for the NDIS and they will no longer be
able to use their TUSS voucher book. The trial finishes on 30 June 2016.
Although there are two trials, one will be officially rolled out to the rest of
Western Australia, with the rollout being statewide between 2016 and 2018.
