I refer to Ellenbrook Secondary College and ask:
(a) why did the Minister ignore the advice from Department of Education officials, and allow an extra 21 transportable classrooms to be moved Ellenbrook Secondary College by 2017, over the maximum capacity of 8 as advised by the Department; and
(b) what advice has been provided to the Minister about the student safety of the transportable classrooms being located so close to the Perth-Dampier gas pipeline?

(a) The original planning for Ellenbrook Secondary College provided notional locations for eight transportable classrooms. As a result of the ongoing enrolment growth in the Ellenbrook area, the Department of Education undertook a comprehensive review of the school site and has determined that it will be able to adequately accommodate a revised figure of 19 transportable classrooms required for 2017. (b) The location of the transportable classrooms complies with the (90m) development setback for the Dampier-Bunbury gas pipeline requirement for sensitive uses. It should be noted that the residential setback (30m) is far less, and is considered safe for all community members in Ellenbrook.
