National Rugby League—Western Australian licence
35. Mr Peter Rundle to the Premier :
I refer to the
Premier's recent negotiations with Peter V'landys and the Australian Rugby
League Commission regarding a National Rugby League licence in WA, which would
reportedly set Western Australians back $35 million.
(1)
Has the Premier heard from V'landys regarding a meeting to resurrect the
Premier's deal?
(2) If $35 million does not secure a licence, how much
is the Premier willing to spend? Will he go to the commission with a blank
cheque?

Before I start, can
I just acknowledge in your gallery, Mr Speaker, some Labor legends. We have Hon
Bob Kucera, Nick Catania and Ron Edwards. I finish with Ron Edwards because he
is one of the great NRL champions in Western Australia, and I thank him for his
support during this period.
(1)–(2)
We have not received a formal response from the NRL in relation to the offer
that we put to it. Not me, but we continue to be in discussions with the NRL
and I will let the community know if those discussions are forthcoming.
