Minister for Community Development, Women’s Interests, Seniors and Youth , AGENCY SAVINGS
I refer the minister to savings measures detailed in the 2001-02 budget within each of her agencies, including the Department for Community Development, the Department of Culture and the Arts and the Disability Services Commission. Will the minister advise the House how $21.358 million worth of savings will be achieved from those agencies and, in particular, what programs and initiatives are to be cut or abolished this year and over the next four years? Ms McHALE

I will answer that question to the best of my knowledge. However, I imagine that this question would be more properly dealt with by a question on notice so that I could give the member specific information. Notwithstanding that, the Treasurer has provided the Opposition, by supplementary information for the Estimates Committees, with this Government’s savings measures. That information is available to the Opposition. The member for Carine was at the Estimates Committees when I told her that we had quarantined the Disability Services Commission from dividend savings that agencies were required to make. We applied a different approach to the Department for Community Development for very good reason. Disability services and community development are very much core services of our Government. We were at pains to ensure that we quarantined and protected those agencies from the dividend savings. The information on savings made by the Department of Culture and the Arts is in the budget. If the member would like more specific details, I suggest she put her question on notice.
