DROUGHT RELIEF - STATE ASSISTANCE
I refer to advice provided to the Minister for Agriculture and Food in answering question without notice 1135 on 23 November 2006. (1) Without disclosing recipients, could details be provided of “locally developed initiatives” approved to receive $191 458 in support under the small business initiatives fund to the year 30 June 2006? (2) The Small Business Development Corporation Act 1983 defines a small business as one with a “relatively small share of the market in which it competes”. Is this market share defined in the context of - (a) a local government area; (b) Western Australia; or (c) Australia? (3) The act further defines a small business to be “not a subsidiary of, or . . . part of, a larger business”. Does this exclude - (a) franchises; and (b) firms with a number of rural branches?
