In addition, the Statement of Planning Policy No 11 (Agriculture and Land Use Planning) was gazetted in March 2002. Its aim is to protect productive agricultural land while allowing for rural community expansion. The Policy is being coordinated by the Department of Planning and Infrastructure. Further, the State Sustainability Strategy aims to set the direction needed to pursue sustainable development through a 'triple bottom line approach' - ie achieving economic, social and environmental goals at the same time. A draft document was recently released for public comment. Moves are underway to make the Great Southern a pilot region. The Strategy is being coordinated by the Department of Premier and Cabinet's Sustainable Policy Unit. (2) Not applicable. (3) Government policy documents are available at the Great Southern Development Commission and the Department of Local Government and Regional Development. They are also accessible via the web at www.premier.wa.gov.au/main.cfm and the Draft Regional Policy Statement at www.dlgrd.wa.gov.au/rps .
