CORONAVIRUS —
REGIONAL AIR SERVICES
294. Hon COLIN HOLT to the minister representing the
Minister for Transport:
I refer to the reduction of
services by commercial regular passenger transport airlines to regional Western
Australia arising from COVID-19.
(1) How will this
impact regional patients accessing specialist medical care under the patient
assisted travel scheme?
(2) How will this impact the
mobilisation of the health workforce across regional Western Australia?
(3) How will this
impact the timely transportation of medical supplies, such as blood and plasma,
and of pathology samples, especially COVID-19 tests?
(4) What plans are in place to ensure that health
services are not further impacted by the reduction in RPT services?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. The following answer has been provided by the
Minister for Transport.
(1)–(4) The
state government has been working with airlines, local governments and airport
owners to find ways to secure a level of air services across Western Australia's
many regional communities. This approach will assist with the mobilisation of
health staff; timely transportation of medical supplies, such as blood and
plasma, and pathology samples; and the management of regional health services.
