CRIME AND ANTISOCIAL BEHAVIOUR
779. Ms L. METTAM to the Premier:
I
have a supplementary question. What new urgent legislative measures are being
considered by the government to curb
violent crime, which has happened under the Premier's watch, and ensure
that offenders face stricter consequences?

The Leader of the Liberal Party
turned her back on community safety and walked away. The Leader of the National
Party outright opposed keeping the community safer. The Leader of the Liberal
Party turned her back on all those victims of crime.
Ms L. Mettam interjected.
The SPEAKER : Order, please.
Mr R.H. COOK : She turned her
back on all those cops who are out there day in, day out trying to keep the
community safer and she turned her back on the women who are the victims of
domestic violence, but she now comes into this place trying to pretend that she
somehow stands for community safety. She does not; she is a risk to community
safety. The Liberal Party is committed to forming a coalition government. The
Liberal Party knows that the only way it can form a coalition government —
Ms L. Mettam interjected.
The SPEAKER : Premier, can you
just pause for a moment please.
Member for Vasse, your commentary is
incessant. You asked the Premier a supplementary question and he is answering it. You have not been quiet for more
than 10 seconds of that time. I am asking you to desist. It is one thing to make the occasional interjection; it is quite another to just continuously
interject on every second or third word that the Premier utters. The Premier
has the call. He is wrapping up his supplementary answer.
Mr R.H. COOK : We all know
that the community is safer under a Labor government; in fact, compared with
the figure in 2016, there has been a decrease
in overall criminal offences. Take, for example, dwelling burglaries, which was 53 per cent down in 2023 on the 2016 number. We know how to keep the
community safe—it is by electing a WA Labor government.
