I refer to the need for dialysis services in regional areas, and I ask: (a) Of the 25 patients in the Great Southern region who require dialysis, how many of these have to travel to Perth on a weekly basis for their treatment; (b) Of the 20 dialysis patients in the Wheatbelt region who require dialysis, how many of these have to travel to Perth on a weekly basis for their treatment; and (c) Are there any plans for dialysis services to be available in Esperance, Katanning and Narrogin hospitals in the future and if so, when?

(a)   One (1) patient in the Great Southern from Katanning has declined a permanent placement at the Albany Satellite Dialysis Unit and travels to Perth for dialysis treatment.
(b)   Two (2) patients.
(c)   There are currently different options available for patients who require dialysis in Esperance, Katanning and Narrogin. Patients requiring peritoneal dialysis or haemodialysis are able to dialyse at home. Eligible patients requiring haemodialysis who are unable to dialyse at home, may be considered to undertake Community Supported Home Dialysis in the hospital setting. Esperance Hospital has two Community Supported Home Dialysis chairs available for patients to self-administer their treatment in circumstances where they are unable to do so at home. There are currently no patients using these chairs.
WACHS continues to support dialysis patients in Katanning and Narrogin, and are monitoring the demand for Community Supported Home Dialysis outside of patients homes. WACHS will consider exploring suitable rooms within existing sites if patients require a hospital-based facility to self-administer their treatment outside of their homes.
