I refer the Premier to the full-page colour newspaper advertisement in the Joondalup community newspaper, ostensibly to promote the northern suburbs rail line. (1) On what basis does the advertisement feature the Labor members for Joondalup, Innaloo and Wanneroo under the title of local community leaders? (2) If this advertisement were anything more than an attempt to promote Labor members of Parliament in marginal seats at taxpayers’ expense, why did it not also feature other community leaders such as the Liberal members for the North Metropolitan Region, the Liberal member for Kingsley, the Liberal member for Hillarys or even me? (3) Will the Premier now admit that he has once again broken his promise to not use public funding for political purposes? Dr G.I. GALLOP

First, I neglected to mention something when I rose earlier today. On behalf of everyone in this House, we wish Rebecca Carmody a very happy birthday. Several members interjected. The SPEAKER: Order, members! Dr G.I. GALLOP: I will do anything to win a bit of influence in the media today! (1)-(3) The extension to the northern suburbs rail line is one of the most significant achievements of this Government. It has been strongly supported by all Labor members of this House. They have participated in the processes of consultation and in all public events associated with them. I am sure that if the member for Carine had been actively involved in all those issues and wished to be a part of that advertisement, she could have been.
