POLICE
BUDGET — FRONT-LINE SERVICES
580. Mrs M.H. ROBERTS to the Minister for Police:
I have a supplementary question. How does the minister define
front-line policing?
Ms M.M. Quirk :
Good question.

Mr Speaker —
Mrs M.H. Roberts :
You didn't answer my first two questions.
Mrs L.M. HARVEY : I
am quite surprised that the member opposite needs to have front-line police
servicing defined for her. Front-line police servicing is what I define as the
ability of police to answer calls for assistance, to respond to calls for
assistance and to deliver the services to the community to the level and
expectation that this government puts out there for service delivery for
police. Our priority as a government has been and always will be —
Ms M.M. Quirk interjected.
The SPEAKER :
Member for Girrawheen!
Mrs L.M. HARVEY : —
community safety and community protection. Law and order is a high priority of
this government and that has indeed been backed up today by the decision of
executive government —
Mrs M.H. Roberts :
What are you guaranteeing you won't cut?
The SPEAKER :
Member for Midland!
Mrs L.M. HARVEY :
That the police budget will be better off today by more than $26 million, to
lift the FTE cap on policing and to continue with our commitment to deliver
additional police officers to the WA Police service commensurate with our
commitment to the community in the 2008 election.
Ms M.M. Quirk interjected.
The SPEAKER :
Member for Girrawheen, I formally call you to order for the second time today.
