I thank Hon Norman Moore for some notice of this question, to which I provide an answer on behalf of the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Planning and Infrastructure. The minister has provided a response as follows. Construction of the Karratha-Tom Price road was one of the many promises made by the previous coalition government and not delivered. In contrast, the Labor government is delivering on commitments to build the major infrastructure needed to progress our state. Prior to the 2001 state election, Labor gave a commitment to spend $100 million on sealing the Karratha-Tom Price road, and we have already exceeded that amount. Stage 1 between Tom Price and the Nanutarra-Wittenoom road was completed in December 2003. Stage 2, from North West Coastal Highway to Barowanna Hill near Curlewis, is almost complete. The completion of these stages will have seen expenditure of more than $172 million and will provide some 115 kilometres of high standard sealed road. The remaining stages will be considered as part of future budget processes.
