(a – e) The model of care for children supports increased access to appropriate community-based services, rather than increasing inpatient beds.
In the metropolitan area there are 20 beds dedicated to children’s mental health at Perth Children’s Hospital and 46 beds allocated to adolescent/young adult mental health across Bentley Health Service, Fiona Stanley Hospital and Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.
Children, adolescents, and young people requiring acute mental heath are in the regions are treated at WA Country Health Service hospitals where appropriate.
In addition to existing beds, funding for a further 53 forensic mental health beds, including 5 for children under 18 years of age has been allocated in the 2023-24 State Budget.
