(1)–(3) I begin by making it very plain
that our police officers are the finest in the country. Every day that they go
out, they put their lives on the line to serve our community, and they do it
incredibly well. Any violence whatsoever against a police officer is absolutely
unacceptable. The government has invested millions and millions of dollars to
support them and keep them safe. I can think of body-worn cameras, which play
an integral role in gaining evidence to mount prosecutions. I am thinking of
the body armour that protects them from stabbings and other wounds, and I am
thinking of the millions of dollars we have spent to provide our officers world-class
training so that they can be as safe as possible. Of course, there are tough
sentencing laws in place for anyone who is found to have seriously assaulted a
police officer. We will continue to support our police as we have done in the
past.
