For each of the financial years 2021–22, 2022–23, 2023–24, 2024–25, and year-to-date 2025–26, in relation to charges laid for assaulting a police officer: (a) How many matters have: (i) proceeded to trial; (ii) resulted in a conviction following trial; (iii) resulted in a conviction following a guilty plea; (iv) resulted in acquittal; (v) been withdrawn or discontinued by the prosecution; and (vi) are still pending final determination; (b) Of the convictions recorded in (a), how many offenders received: (i) a custodial sentence (broken down by immediate imprisonment vs. suspended imprisonment); (ii) a community-based order or intensive supervision order; (iii) a fine; and (iv) other penalty (please specify); (c) For each year since 2021–22, what is the median and average length of custodial sentence imposed for an assault on a police officer; (d) For each year since 2021–22, how many appeals were lodged against convictions or sentences for assaulting a police officer, and what were the outcomes; and (e) For each year since 2021–22, how many cases remain awaiting conviction or sentencing as at the date of this question?

( a - e) Assaults against police officers is not a specific sub-section under s318 of the Criminal Code Compilation Act 1913 and this data is therefore unable to be extracted from the Courts’ case management system.
