Department of Education—School violence
39. Mr Liam Staltari to the Minister for Education :
I have a
supplementary question. I thank the minister for her answer, but I ask again: is
the minister aware of the existence of this panic button app and has it been
rolled out by the Department of Education?

We have a world-class
education system, and I will just caution the new shadow education minister about
the approach that he is taking with this.
Our students and our
families deserve much better from representatives in the community. All our
schools are fantastic schools. Those students—

The Speaker: Just wait until I give you the call,
member for Central Wheatbelt. Members of the government, have you finished? Do
I have to keep saying every time we do this that points of order are heard in
silence? Carry on, member for Central Wheatbelt.
Mr Lachlan Hunter: Thank you, Mr Speaker. The point of
order I am raising is on relevance. The member for Carine, the shadow minister,
asked a very direct question to the minister and she has been going now for
nearly a minute. We still have not got an answer.
The Speaker: Minister, just wait. A couple of things,
member for Central Wheatbelt. Firstly, I am not upholding that point of order.
Secondly, we do not have time limits on our question time so a minister can
take the amount of time they need to respond to a question. Thirdly, questions
here in question time are at my discretion. If I have an issue with the length
of time it is taking, I will look after it. If I think it is going on too long,
I can shorten the number of questions that are asked. You do not need to bother
yourself with timing the responses. Carry on, minister.

Ms Sabine Winton: Thank you, Speaker. Can I just
reaffirm that we have a world-class education system. I am going to continue to
talk it up. I am going to continue to support students, teachers and our
communities to ensure that we continue to have that.
