BLUEWATERS
POWER
963. Hon Dr STEVE THOMAS to the parliamentary secretary
representing the Minister for Energy:
I refer to the government's refusal to offer a transparent
answer to my question that I asked on Tuesday, 20 August about the existing
energy contracts that Bluewaters Energy has with the Water Corporation and
Synergy, which end next year in 2025, and to
the Auditor General's scathing twenty-third report of 27 June 2024,
which highlighted the government's refusal to be transparent,
causing a humiliating backdown.
(1) Has the
process of replacing the existing power contracts commenced, and what action
has taken place to date?
(2) Will these
contracts be renewed in any form?
(3) If yes to
(2), will it be by public tender or contract?
(4) Will the
public, including the Collie community, be told the outcome of the contracts
before the March 2025 state election?
(5) Is this
lack of basic transparency now government policy?

I think I thank the member for some notice of the question.
On behalf of the Minister for Energy, I provide the following answer.
(1)–(5)
Power purchase agreements with privately owned electricity generators are
determined on a portfolio needs basis. The details of these agreements,
including timing, are commercial-in-confidence.
