(1) What state-of-the-art services
or facilities will be provided at the visitor centre?
(2) What is the
estimated cost of building the visitor centre, including fittings and
state-of-the-art facilities?
(3) What is the estimated annual
operating cost of the visitor centre?
(4) How many full-time equivalents
will be required to staff the visitor centre?
(5) Will the
visitor centre be staffed by Department of Parks and Wildlife officers; and, if

of this question. The Minister for Environment has provided the following
response —
(1)–(5) On
11 July 2016 the state government announced the commencement of the project
along with committed funding of $28.9 million. An additional $10.9 million has
been allocated towards the project on top of the original $18 million 2013
election commitment. This total amount incorporates the $3 million commitment
towards science and conservation works in and around the Leschenault Inlet.
Design works and specific costings are being finalised. The new headquarters
will include landscaping and recreation and visitor facilities to create an
interactive ''gateway experience'' for visitors intending to
visit national and marine parks and other natural attractions of the greater
south west region.
The choice of the Koombana Drive
site, which is on the major entry road into the Bunbury central business
district, will assist the department meet its strategic goal of positively
engaging with the community by providing a visitor information gateway to the
natural attractions of the south west. The government is currently evaluating
structural options regarding departmental functions and work groups that will
be accommodated in the initial accommodation stage. Staff accommodated at the
new complex will be employees of the Department of Parks and Wildlife.
