1). (a)- (e) The Department of Fisheries conducts an annual community survey for the purposes of collecting: I. Data on the level of recall and awareness of the Department; II. Data on the understanding and support of the community for the Department's management strategies; and III. Data on recreational fishing participation. Data from the community surveys is also used for performance indicator reporting as part of the Annual Report. Community surveys were conducted in June 2001, May 2002, May 2003, May 2004, May 2005 and May 2006. In addition to the community surveys, stakeholder surveys were conducted in November 2002 and August 2004. These surveys target direct stakeholders and evaluate perceptions of the Department's management of its core programs and satisfaction with the level of service provided. This data is also used for performance indicator purposes. 2). The cost of the community surveys in 2005 was $9,863.70 (GST inclusive) and 2006 was $10,703 (GST inclusive). In these cases, an external provider conducted the surveys on behalf of the Department.
