The Western Australia Police Service advises that the authority of Police to search vehicles depends on the individual circumstances.
For example, Section 49 of the
Police Act 1892
provides a general power of search for anything believed to be stolen or unlawfully obtained. In addition, Police may search vehicles under;
· Section 23 of the
Misuse of Drugs Act 1981
,
· Section 24 of the
Firearms Act
and
· Section 191
Fisheries Act
.
· Regulation 62 of the
Road Traffic (Vehicle Standards) Regulations 2002.
