Main Roads—Maintenance
1016. Hon Steve Martin to
the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister
for Transport:
I refer to the 2009
and 2016 Auditor General's reports into the Main Roads Western Australia maintenance
backlog, which both quote figures of approximately $800 million, and the minister's
response to my question without notice 985 on 11 November 2025 asking for an
updated figure, which was to provide a $22 million figure for year-on-year
carryover. Using the Auditor General's definition for the backlog, in dollar
terms what is the most recently assessed figure for the Main Roads' maintenance
backlog and approximately how many kilometres of road are included in this
figure?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question and provide the following
answer on behalf of the Minister for Transport.
Main Roads road
maintenance is prioritised on the basis of need. Bringing road maintenance
in-house after 20 years of damaging Liberal–National privatisation will
provide greater opportunities for proactive maintenance.
