Adoption Orders Granted for Western Australia for the period: 1 July1996 – 30 June 2001. The median waiting time was used to give a truer representation of the waiting time for the majority of applicants. It represents the mid point around which most of the cases cluster. LOCAL ADOPTIONS INTERCOUNTRY ADOPTIONS YEAR Median in Months Median in Months 1996-1997 46 65 1997-1998 50 45 1998-1999 33 44 1999-2000 41 36 2000-2001 31 30 NB The waiting time is calculated from the date of the formal application to the date of the granting of an adoption order. The adoption order may be granted in the country of origin before the child arrives in Australia or granted by the Family Court of WA after the child arrives in WA.
