Hon. Norman Moore questions the Premier regarding the Ningaloo Strategy's impact on Coral Bay, specifically concerning increased accommodation, residential development, commercial expansion, and environmental considerations compared to the Mauds Landing development. The Premier clarifies his previous statements, stating he didn't reject potential accommodation increases, but rather the assertion of doubling Coral Bay's population.

I refer the Premier to his Question Time statements made in the Legislative Assembly yesterday rejecting suggestions that the Government’s Ningaloo Strategy means a doubling of Coral Bay tourism accommodation, and ask -
(1) Is the Premier aware that a table on page 171 of the strategy shows accommodation bed numbers on existing freehold land at Coral Bay will increase from the current 1 848 beds to 3 600?
(2) Is the Premier aware that the strategy involves further residential housing development to cater for 400 workers at Coral Bay?
(3) Is the Premier aware that the Ningaloo Strategy also involves further commercial and retail development at Coral Bay, including Government offices?
(4) Is the Premier aware that the EPA recognised the Mauds Landing development as an opportunity to relocate activities threatening the Coral Bay environment?
(5) Will the Premier explain the basis for his claim that the Ningaloo Strategy will not double Coral Bay and that it is environmentally preferable to the Mauds Landing development?

The Premier did not, as the question asserts, reject suggestions that tourist accommodation at Coral Bay could increase under the Strategy. Rather, he rejected the assertion by the Hon Norman Moore that "the Premier now intends to double the population of Coral Bay." Even if accommodation increases to the full extent possible under the Strategy over the next 30 years, following assessment of development proposals against strict environmental and planning guidelines, it will only cater for the present population that visits Coral Bay in peak periods.
