the Minister for Energy and Decarbonisation:
I have a
supplementary question.
As we discussed
yesterday, there has been some analysis undertaken of the economic impact on
Albany of the decommissioning of that pipeline. Will that analysis be made
available?

The asset is at end
of life. I think it has been suggested to me that the government should purchase
it and sell it on again. That would be a terrible use of taxpayer funds to
correct a terrible mistake of the former Liberal–National government,
which sold the asset to a private company that has now walked away. That the
taxpayers of Western Australia should purchase it, repair it and sell it on
again—I mean, that is just bananas! It is a crazy use of taxpayer
funds.
We will work with the community. The community is at
the centre of this. I understand that they are concerned and surprised by
the announcement, as were we all, but I have given a very clear commitment that
we will work closely both with the government and the private sector to ensure
that community needs are supported.
