The Department recognised the need to increase maintenance expenditure to improve the amenity level and quality of the housing stock with funding being increased annually since 2003/2004. The implementation of Personal Digital Assistants to enable the Department to capture standardised data and assist in the development of maintenance budgets. Improvements in maintenance monitoring and control through the appointment of an additional 16 Senior Accommodation Managers and 4 Accommodation Managers throughout the State, enabling all properties to be visited twice a year, and providing a greater emphasis on quality customer service. The Regional Upgrade Strategy has been implemented which will see the replacement of 800 properties and refurbishment of a further 200 in Regional Western Australia. The Department's New Living program continues to lead the way in urban development and is transforming and revitalising old public housing estates with a high public housing presence. The Department introduced an automated on-line Regional and Branch Self Assessment Program to undertake a self-audit of procedures. In consultation with the community sector the Department reviewed the Homeswest Appeals Mechanism and improved the level of transparency and fairness in the process.
