MEDICAL CANNABIS
ADVISORY SERVICE
1147. Hon Dr BRIAN WALKER to the parliamentary secretary
representing the Minister for Health:
I refer the minister to the opening,
just last week, of a cannabis research institute in Chicago with a brief to
study both the positive and negative effects
of cannabis on individuals and the community. The Cook government says that it supports in principle the establishment of a medicinal cannabis advisory
service in WA.
(1) Has any progress
been made on undertaking a feasibility study into the establishment of such a service, since the government's response to
the recommendations of the Select Committee into Cannabis and Hemp was
tabled 12 months ago?
(2) If not, why
not, and can the minister share any timeframe considered by the department for
such a feasibility study?
(3) Will the
minister consider the Chicago model as one potential option here in Western Australia
to educate both the public and the government on the developments in our
understanding of cannabis, its benefits and its pitfalls?
