INCARCERATION RATES
278. Hon SAMANTHA ROWE to the Attorney General
representing the Minister for Corrective Services:
I ask this question on behalf of Hon Amber-Jade Sanderson, who is out of the
chamber at the moment on urgent parliamentary business.
For each of the calendar years 2013, 2014 and 2015 —
(1) What total number of adult individuals
entered the Western Australian prison system?
(2) What total number of those individuals
had previously been incarcerated in a Western Australian prison?

On behalf of the Minister for
Corrective Services, I thank the honourable member for some notice of question.
The department advises —
(1) The number of
distinct adult individuals who entered the Western Australian prison system, by
financial year, are listed as follows: in 2012–13, 6 590; in 2013–14,
6 622; in 2014–15, 6 657; and, between 1 July 2015 to 31 December 2015,
3 915.
(2) The
department advises that the information requested is not recorded in a manner
that is easily retrievable within the given time frame and the member is asked
to place that part of the question on notice.
