I refer to the allocation of $14 million in the 2001-02 budget papers for the establishment of high wide-load corridors and ask - (1) How much of the allocation was expended in the 2001-02 financial year? (2) What works were undertaken as a result of this expenditure? (3) How much of the balance of any unexpended funds were carried forward to the current financial year? (4) Have any further allocations been made for the high wide-load project in the 2002-03 budget within the minister’s portfolio? Hon GRAHAM GIFFARD

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this question that was originally dated 22 August. I am advised that the information provided is still current as at 8 October. The answer provided by the minister is as follows - (1) $1.059 million. (2) Works were undertaken to develop corridor one from Jervois Bay to Singleton, including road improvements and service relocations to enable the passage of high and wide loads. The establishment of these corridors is important to the State’s manufacturing industry and works already undertaken to date will assist in improving the competitiveness of this industry. (3) $941 000. (4) The Government is now working with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Western Australia to identify the priorities for the further development of high wide-load corridors. This should be completed in the next few months and will then be considered by the Government.
