I refer to the Minister’s speech to, ‘The Challenge of the Times’, on 6 March 2009, and ask -
(1) On what basis did the Minister claim on that day that, -
(a) growth remains strong, but is softening;
(b) demand for skilled labour remains strong;
(c) unemployment expected to average four percent in Western Australia;
(d) business investment remains strong; and
(e) demand for iron-ore rising?
(2) Can the Minister outline the $7.7 billion in capital works that are underway?
(3) Can the Minister outline the extensions to passenger rail services that the Government has committed to, and the timeline for their implementation?

(1) This information was based on factual information that is already in the public domain.
(2)This information is contained within the Budget papers and recent media announcements.
(3)The Government has committed to the extension to passenger rail services and this was outlined by the Premier as an infrastructure priority for the Liberal National Government on 2 Feb 2009.
Consequently, the Government has allocated $147.4m over the forward estimates to 2012/13 for the extension of the rail line commencing in 2010/11.
