SOIL AND WATER
CONTAMINATION — WEST BULLSBROOK
339. Hon CHARLES SMITH to the Leader of the House
representing the Premier:
I
refer to the PFAS contamination in West Bullsbrook that affects about 200
families. Why is WA the only state not to
have signed the Intergovernmental Agreement on a National Framework for
Responding to PFAS Contamination?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
Western Australia has not signed
the intergovernmental agreement, as the IGA does not resolve deficiencies in
the commonwealth's regulation of PFAS on commonwealth land, which
includes airport and defence sites in Western Australia. The state continues to
work with the commonwealth to resolve these issues and is open to signing the
IGA in the future. Western Australia continues to fully participate in the
commonwealth PFAS task force's engagement with states and territories
in relation to the IGA.
