Fuel supply
127. Hon Phil Twiss to
the Leader of the House
representing the Premier:
I refer to the
Premier's public comments that there are no direct impacts to fuel supply in
Western Australia.
(1) If there is no problem with supply
why is the government convening an emergency fuel security round table today to
"help understand what is happening on the ground"?
(2) Does the Premier agree with the
Minister for Energy and Decarbonisation, who said that fuel contracts are 100%
absolutely being filled, despite reports that wholesale bulk contracts are
being significantly reduced and that some farmers can no longer access fuel at
all?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question.
(1)–(2) I am advised that there are no direct
impacts to fuel supply in Australia and that fuel continues to arrive in
Australia in expected volumes. However, panic buying is leading to temporary
disruptions to supply at some retailers. The government understands that this
is creating anxiety for some Western Australian families and businesses. The
fuel security round table will help our government understand exactly what is
happening on the ground so that we can decide on the next steps and ensure that
Western Australia remains resilient to potential challenges. The government
makes no apology for listening to members of the community, businesses and
industry in relation to the challenges they may be facing. As we develop our
policy response, I strongly encourage the honourable member to support the
government's approach instead of attempting to cause panic and division in the
community.
